“HIFU or High Intensity Focused Ultrasound is a completely non-invasive face, neck and body lifting and contouring treatment. It uses Micro-Focused Ultrasound to tighten the skin and restore youthful fullness without downtime.”
How it works?
During HIFU treatment, the micro-Focused Ultrasound energy are delivered into precise skin depths, without damaging the surface of the skin.
The energy heats the targeted areas to 60-70°C, the ideal range to denature collagen and facilitate tissue contraction. This stimulates the body’s regenerative response, increasing collagen production through the dermal, deep dermal and SMAS layers to restore more youthful structure and a toned and tighter appearance to the skin.
The result, over time, is natural looking and long-lasting skin lifting, tightening and rejuvenation – without the downtime of surgical treatment.
Three separate cartridges target three critical layers:
- Upper dermis at 1.5mm
- Dermis at 2-3mm
- SMAS at 4.5mm
The degraded collagen in the target areas is heated to coagulative temperatures of 60-70°C, shrinking the tissues and inducing phagocytosis, the process that clears out the redundant cellular debris. This in turn stimulates the fibroblasts to produce new collagen fibres, regenerating, strengthening and lifting the tissue, and restoring a more youthful support structure to the skin.
Ultraformer is particularly beneficial for hard-to-treat areas of the neck and face that do not respond easily to traditional treatment methods. As the new collagen regenerates and grows, the structure regains its support and fullness, and the skin surface is restored to a more youthful appearance.
HIFU, Radiofrequency(RF), Laser, which is better?
It depends! Lasers use light to target the tissue, while HIFU and radiofrequency devices use energy to heat the skin below the surface. All three result in skin tightening, however lasers and RF Machines focus energy on the surface of the skin, whereas HIFU targets deep below the skin (3 mm and 4.5 mm beneath the surface). Treating the deeper layers of skin means your body will be lifting and tightening from the inside out, which may help you to achieve better results.
Another important difference between the three is the amount of downtime associated with each treatment. Patients may experience some downtime after laser resurfacing, depending on the level of treatment. HIFU and RF Machines have virtually no downtime.
So to summarize, HIFU has the benefit of being a one-time treatment, and of targeting deeper tissue. RF can be divided into multipolar or unipolar. Multipolar is more comfortable and can be repeated at weekly intervals, but targets the skin (more superficial tissue). Unipolar RF penetrates deeper than bipolar RF but is still limited to skin dermis layer. Lasers are very effective in combating wrinkles, aging, and many other skin imperfections on the surface level. Most patients can benefit from combining treatments, but may choose one over the other based on the condition of the skin and goals after treatment.
- Excellent results for face lifting, skin tightening, wrinkles, pores, V-line forming, jowl line, cheek shaping, skin tone improvementand laxity improvement.
- Targets hard-to-treat areas on the face, neck and body.
- Reduce eye bags
- Non-invasive face and neck lift which produces lasting results up to 18 to 24 months.
- 3 sessions once a month produce optimal lifting and tightening effect
- Recommended to repeat treatment once a year to maintain the results as aging is an ongoing process
A. Is HIFU Safe?
The HIFU procedure has been used safely in over 250,000 treatments worldwide. Ultrasound energy itself has been used safely in the medical field for more than 50 years.
B. How does it feel during the treatment?
As the ultrasound energy is delivered, you will feel tiny amounts of energy being deposited to precise depths, indicating that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Comfort levels vary from person to person, but the sensation only lasts while the ultrasound energy is being delivered.
C. Are There Any Side Effects?
The skin might appear flushed at first, this can be during treatment but sometimes lasting longer, the redness should however disappear within a few hours. Some clients experience slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch, but these are temporary in nature.
D. How Long Does it Take to See Results and How long do they last?
After your HIFU Treatment, you may see some initial effect, but the ultimate results will take place over 2-3 months, as your body naturally regenerates collagen. Since the procedure stimulates your own collagen production, how long the results last really depends on you. The treatment produces new collagen on the inside, but your natural aging process will dictate how long that translates into visible results on the outside.Because skin continues to age, future touch-up treatments can help clients keep pace with the body’s natural aging process.
E. When will HIFU be less effective?
In my opinion, HIFU is effective in improving skin elasticity and reduce wrinkles. However, you may need more sessions to be effective as this involves a natural body response. If the facial aging involves facial volume loss or fat disposition for example at pre-jowl areas, combination treatment will be needed to bring out the skin tightening effect.
